XXXTENTACION, born Jahseh Dwayne Onfroy, in Lauder Hill, Florida has now become an upcoming American rapper, singer, and songwriter. By raising controversy and apparent hatred toward himself, the rapper faces many challenges regarding people’s opinions as he rises to popularity.

"In my opinion, X is an overrated rapper that just wants attention and talks about life, but hasn’t really lived through enough of it and just acts like a brat. He talks non-sense in his raps. Those who think he’s good are as ignorant as him only to be a bandwagon as his fans grow,” junior Marcos Garcia said.

X is wildly known for his very explicit lyrics with vulgar and very repetitive wording in his music for which he’s critically acclaimed for. Many view his lyrics as provocative and disrespectful to women as he raps jokingly and sonically about committing sexual acts and treating them objectively.

“He doesn’t do anything 'artistic,' he just flounders himself on being an uncultured swine and being reckless in society just being a bad influence on those who even catch a snip of his music," Laura Perez said.

Yet those who listen to X know not only his purpose, but the messages he coveys in controversy.

“Those who listen to X and say he’s ignorant don’t know the meaning of ignorance because they themselves have been hypocrites and have judged a book by its cover, only looking at the surface and not even trying to give him a chance to speak out. He’s reckless and bizarrely pleasing if you really know his reason for it," junior Mauricio Alfaro said.

Those who have heard X believe his controversy is a way of bringing attention to himself.

“I want to help those broken hearted, lost… let them know they’re not alone," XXXTENTACION said in an interview for his new album 17.

Those listeners who are dedicated, who have really found something in his words, think of him as a young prophet spreading positivity and letting real prosperity thrive.

“He talks about not only emotions, but about how to move on to be a better person and how to seek your own truth and thrive," junior Jesus Esquivel said.

Either way he’s seen by his audience, he will always have something to talk about, whether for his lyrics or for his personality. To him, this is only his come up and he doesn’t care for those who may send negativity his way.

“If you don’t like me, don’t mind me” XXXTENTACION said.
