Grand Prairie high school named senior Caleb Clark and Valeria Medillin king and queen at the homecoming game against Irving MacArthur on Friday, October 20th.
“I didn't have a plan to win homecoming king because I didn't think I had a chance at winning,” Clark said. “There were other people that ran for king that I thought had a bigger advantage, like Pepe. I thought he was going to win.”
Students in grades nine through 12 could nominate themselves for homecoming court. Once the court was established, the student body voted on who they wanted as senior king and queen. Many nominees passed out candy, made shirts, and posters to campaign to win.
“I was hoping to win this year’s homecoming queen,” Medillin said. “I was passing out things and my cousin and friends were helping me out as well. It was working and I was glad because I had good competition from Destiny and Nancy.”
Homecoming is an exciting week. Court nominees and students in organizations participate in the Homecoming Parade which takes place on Main Street. Following the parade, everyone gathered on the track and they named the homecoming court.
“I felt happy when I won homecoming queen,” Medillin said. “I am honored my senior class voted for me and am glad everything I did in order to win was worth it.”
