Many people might think that traditions on Thanksgiving are the same for everybody, but some would disagree because they have their own family traditions for the holiday.

For many Americans, their traditions include a large turkey dinner with mashed potatoes and maybe some macaroni and cheese at center of the table.

However, some traditions for Hispanics on Thanksgiving might be a little different. The food is just as delicious! Spices and generations of cooking is what makes Hispanic cooking different and unique.

“My family always eats tamales on Thanksgiving,” freshman Cuahtelmoc Duenas said. “They always take a long time to make, but they taste good.”

Some ditch the turkey all together for something different.

“My family eats ham because it is definitely better than turkey,” freshman Elanna Alvarado said. “Ham is juicy and turkey is so dry.”

Traditions can also go beyond what food is served.

“My favorite activity on Thanksgiving is playing board games,” Alvardo said. “Spending quality time with family is the best way to spend the holiday.”
