If you have ever walked the halls, you have seen Mr. Samuel Bonsu shaking hands and talking with students and teachers. As an assistant principal at Grand Prairie High School, he follows his dream of encouraging students and people who require it most.
Originally born in Ghana, Bonsu was raised in the Netherlands prior to moving to Minnesota to study psychology and follow his dream of helping those in need.
“My plan was always to add value and encourage all,” Bonsu said. “I never knew how I was going to do it. That's why I started studying psychology.”
Bonsu was raised in a loving home with married parents and few siblings. His parents were religious, so he was always taken to church and taught to push himself to be the best he could be. Because of where he was born and raised, he moved to the United States with a heavy British/Dutch accent. He didn't fit in at school, but his parents never let that be an excuse as to why he wouldn't do his best.
“I was very different,” Bonsu said. “But my childhood prepared me for adulthood.”
Bonsu found himself working at Grand Prairie High School to follow his dream of helping those who need it. He saw an opportunity to offer positive feedback and use his psychology degree to better others. He felt as if he was called to the job.
“There are so many walks of life in this school,” Mr. Bonsu said. “All you have to do is listen and you'll hear a different story.”
Through his experiences, Bonsu was shaped into the brilliant man he is to this day. He doesn't hesitate to find the best in even the worst moments and use them to his advantage.
“In every experience I've had, I have learned that it's not for me,” Bonsul said. “They affect those around me and I'm glad I get to have them and experience them with other people.”
