College Club is the newest club on campus and focuses on finding a college that fits you.
After low attendance last year, Ms. McGinnis and Ms. Patten were determined to make it a success.
“We tried starting it last year but no one showed up. We worked hard and planned ways to attract students in the beginning of the school year,” Ms. Patten said. “We like to bring snacks and guests speakers in.”
With snacks in hand, College Club helps you find out what to expect in college and what the standards are.
“Speakers from different colleges around the Metroplex come to speak to us,” Ms. Patten said.
“I like hearing about colleges that are local and no one has heard of before.”
By having College Club, teachers and students hope to spread college culture around Grand Prairie High School.
“We have had success with being an AVID campus and we want students to have that same experience,” Ms. Patten said. “College Club would be a great extra class elective if you’re not in AVID but we need to get off the ground first.”
To get involved, go to the Student Media Center after school on Tuesdays or text @GPCClub to 81010 for more information.
