Seven Gophers signed to play football on National Signing Day on Wednesday, February 7, 2018. These gifted athletes have all worked hard to get where they are, and now have a big opportunity to extend their athletic dreams for up to 4 or more years.
Seniors Travis Williams, Cory Jones, Conte Smith and Fabian Leyva signed to Wayland Baptist, Northeastern State Oklahoma and CMP Prep Academy respectively. UNT signee Reginald Williams, Texas Tech signee Demarcus Marshall, and University of Louisiana Monroe signee Bacari Middleton originally signed on December 20, 2017
“This was a feeling I never had before and it feels amazing,” Williams said. “Being able to get a degree and do what I love is the way I would’ve wanted everything to go.”
With these students having this opportunity, it will show that they worked extremely hard to get to that point.
“This showed me a lot. Since I was a kid, I dreamed of going to college and playing football,” Jones said. “Knowing I put in a lot of work in the classroom and the field helps me to be one step closer to my number one objective.”
This is a big accomplishment that the athletic department and students have achieved. Other athletes in various sports may continue to sign until the end of the year.
