Three Cheers for Cheer Tryouts

For any students interested in being a part of the cheer squad, the cheerleading clinic begins next Thursday, March 1 before tryouts start Thursday, March 8 after school.
Parents were required to attend a mandatory meeting in order to apply for financial help or aid with cheerleading fundraisers. At the meeting, the cheerleading squad did not ask that participators have prior experience.
“It’s not really about experience,” junior Emalee Stayton said. “It’s all about technique and how you put yourself out there.”
During the meeting, current cheerleaders walked through what tryouts would look like.
“Those who are trying out are asked to perform a jump, followed by a cheer that we taught them,” junior Jordyn Hadley said.
While it was not a necessity, the cheerleading squad was also on the lookout for male cheerleaders at the meeting. Males are generally stronger than females, so a male cheerleader would benefit the team significantly.
“We can do a lot of different stuff with a male cheerleader and we would have less boundaries,” Stayton said.
With the tryouts around the corner, the student body can look forward to seeing new cheerleaders at our pep rallies and games – but not without a bit of advice from current members.
“Show your best,” Stayton said. “Be outstanding and have confidence in yourself.”
