Last month, our UIL One Act Play competed at Cedar Hill High school. Grand Prairie was one of three schools who advanced to the District competition on Saturday, March 10th at Irving High School.
“We are proud of all of our actors and technicians,” theater teacher Kathleen Post said. “They work hard and it is regarding as a coach to see them succeed.”
Each student went through a series of monologues to perform and was judged based off of the performance. The judges typically look for how they speak, the emotion put forth, and the movement the performer give.
Like any competition, we have to prepare to do well. We have work sessions during class and after school where we work with more advanced students or our coaches Ms. Post and Mr. Eugia," junior Nicole Mina said.
The hard work preparing paid off when senior Ivory Smith gained a spot at nationals.
“I love the thrill of being on stage and feeling the rush of competing,” Smith said. “I am honored to have gained a spot and wouldn’t have been able to do it without support of my coaches and team.”
The following students also received individual awards.
:
All Star Technical Student: Alberto Vergara
Honorable Mention All Star Cast:
Agustín Hernandez
Christal Matthews
All Star Cast:
