AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) juniors and seniors visited Texas State last month for a field trip. It was the first time the AVID program visited the college, and many seniors enjoyed it and it even changed their minds on where they are choosing to attend this fall.
“Texas State looks like your in a movie. The scenery, the people, everything just goes together and it’s a beautiful college,” senior Azael Villa said. “It’s just one of those places you have to see for yourself.”
The experience left in and other AVID students feeling as if the visit should be an annual trip for juniors and seniors since everyone enjoyed their time there.
“We walked around and toured the college with past AVID students which really helped us envision ourselves at the school as a student” junior Daysia Finley said. “We also got to hear about all the clubs and what student life is like.”
Just under five hours from Grand Prairie, Texas State is the perfect distance away in a town called San Marcos. Called “SanMo” by college students, it’s a 40 minutes between San Antonio and Austin giving you a wide variety of places to have fun. It’s a small college town but a big university feeling.
“The drive was far from Grand Prairie, but It’ll be worth it. The community and the vibe is something I can definitely get used too, and it’s definitely a place I can call home,” Villa said.
