Yu-Gi-Oh is an anime series known for its card game adaptation and for the battle monsters used as pawns, an many students have recently rekindled their appreciation. The original run of the series was from September 9, 2006 to November 25, 2006 on the Tokyo Tv network. The series is about a young boy in his teenage years names Yugi Muto accompanied by his close friends; Joey Wheeler, Tea Gardner, and Tristan Taylor. The journey begins when Solomon Muto (Yugis Grandfather) hands Yugi the millennium puzzle, which when completing is possessed with the spirit of a nameless pharaoh who has lived 5,000 years trapped in the Egyptian artifact.
"The coolest thing about this anime is the battle monsters they use and the way the game is actually thought out with the variations of the fighting strategies and the stories third point of view," junior Jesus Escavel Said.
Season one becomes one of the biggest seasons of the whole show, not mentioning the fact that it's the starter point of the show. It begins when Seto Kaiba battles Yugis grandfather and beats him to get his blue eyes white dragon card and cut it into two pieces, now being unusable in the duel monsters match game. Seto Kaiba now being the only one to possess any blue eyes white dragon card, and yugi is once again faced with a challenge as his grandfather is captured by the creator of the duel monster games himself, Maximilian Pegasus sending him into the underworld. Yugi has to face the toughest dealers in the world to get his friends back from Maximilian Pegasus' millenium eye.
"The mix of intensity and rivalry with friendship and betrayal makes the show so unique to any other," senior Andres Quiñones said.
Even though he endures every challenges he's faced with, the only person that he can't beat is the pharaoh within. As he searches for the name and mind of the pharaoh he finds the identity and the past of this duel monster master Atem. As the time and as the anime goes, we see the wise ways to the pharaoh and his bright mindset combines with Yugi to beat any opponent that comes their way. Seeking a suitable opponent, and a way to liberate the trapped pharaoh within Yugi.
"I believe that this is the best anime, and that every single generation should be able to see it, and experience the pleasure of a actual car game," freshman Leam Necco said.
As far as anime goes this anime is considered one of the three most watched anime in the world, not considering merchandise sales and the many adaptations that are later on. Valued for its untypical amount of friendship and loyalty in the show, the endless fights and duel matches against the most fearsome players around. The world, the Egyptian Millennium items, and of course the summoning of the wild beast, makes this anime so amazing it will be watched generation over generation.
"As far as I'm concerned, Yu-Gi-Oh is the best anime, and I don't think anyone could ever disagree with that. If they do, they're wrong without a doubt," sophomore Lenny Andrew said.
