Our school is filled with talented cheerleaders, but one of them stands above the rest. Junior Amy Mann was on JV cheer squad for her junior year, but recently tried out, gave it her best and made it on Varsity.Amy’s reaction on making the varsity team was amazing.
“I’m very happy. I’ve worked hard for this position and it’s a relief to know that all this hard work pays off,” Mann said.
This year’s cheer season is gonna be different. There are new uniforms, more boys on the squad, and a new district to compete against.
“ “I think my junior year has been my best cheer year because that’s when the school started getting more involved in the sports and it was an amazing experience,” Mann said. “But I’ve a feeling that this upcoming year is going to be different in a good way.”
With big changes ahead, Amy also has big plans for her senior year on the Varsity cheer team.
“I’m running for cheer captain this year. I have really good chants, cheers, dances, and more for this year’s cheerleaders,” Mann said.
Since she was six years old, Mann has had a love for cheering and she considers it an honor to be a part of Grand Prairie High School’s team.
“My freshman year I hyperextended my ligament in my knee and was injured for a good two weeks. I was basically on the side lines, but I was there to support my team,” Mann said. “Since then, I have been working hard for a spot on this varsity team. ’ve been working on my jumps, yells, chants, also my moves and more. When I made Varsity, it was such a relief.”
