“Ahh GP” is screamed from the Grand Prairie side as they compete in the Gopher Warrior Bowl at Beat South.

“This year, Beat South is Friday, Oct. 12, but it has been going on for 40 plus years. Every year Grand Prairie High goes against their rival to be the city champs.,” Mrs.Schooling said.

As one of our school’s greatest traditions, the game gets everyone “wired up” as Mrs.Schooling explained. This game brings support and school spirit every year. It’s a time when the whole school comes together to cheer on the football team.

“Beat South gives us a goal to work harder and be the best. In the 80s, we were a powerhouse and we were stomping everyone. We even beat South. Unfortunately now, our last time beating South was ten years ago,” Mrs. Schooling said.

This game is important because we want to be the face of our city.

“Winning helps us prove our superiority and show Grand Prairie which school is better,” senior football player Kelby Swan said.

Everyone in the school is anticipating the excitement of the game.

“The school comes to support and has a pep rally to motivate players. The rally has a lot of color, they’re really fun and they make a mockery of the South cheerleaders,” Mrs.Schooling said laughing.

With the schedule set and game around the corner, many are confident in our ability to win.

“We have a chance this year against South. Coach T is going to lead us to victory and the boys are going to play their best,” Swan said.
