The Cruz and Beto Race

On March 6, 2018, Republican US Senator Ted Cruz started running for re-election for a second term against Democratic candidate Beto O’Rourke. The two have been head-to-head the entire race, reluctant to let the other get in the lead. It has been over seven months now and it's incredible to think that they've both kept this kind of momentum after so long.

“I'm not really into politics at all but even I know how important this election is and how bad we need people to vote”, said Emiliano Ramirez, a senior at Grand Prairie High School.

Ted Cruz has been senator for about five years now and it seems that all Cruz has done was take big steps backwards, in terms of good and progress for the state. Most of Cruz’s major decisions has been filled of controversy and questions. One of his most questionable decisions was the influence in Trump's choice to pull out from the Paris Climate Accord, an accord created by the United Nations to deal with greenhouse gas emissions, adaptation, and finance that is set to start on 2020.

When asked about his thoughts on climate change, Brandon McGlover, a junior at Grand Prairie High, said “Its a real thing. Why people make themselves believe climate change is a lie that was made up, I will never know. But we need someone who will address the issue.”

Beto has been fighting a hard fight against Cruz. Not only does he have the support of those stubborn enough to follow his leadership in a financial standpoint, but he has been fighting day and night to change those people’s hearts and minds in a way that Ted Cruz has never done. Beto has been connecting with families all over Texas, going as far as running along the mexican border and stopping to talk to those who might not have voted and addressing how important it is to vote.

“Everyone better vote for my friend Beto. Ted Cruz is a reflection of Trump and should not be elected again, and honestly got more re-elections than he needed. It someone else's turn to step in and make a change,” senior Misael Mundo said.
