With soccer season coming up, boys and girls at Grand Prairie High get ready to show off their skills at the upcoming tryouts.
There will be a mandatory meeting for the girls soccer team on Tuesday, November 13 in the cafeteria. The tryouts for both boys and girls will take place from Monday, November 26 to Friday, November 30th. They will start right after school at around 3:10 and end at around 4:45 depending on the amount of people trying out. Participants will need to wear some comfortable clothes that allows them to move around and also make sure that their hair does not get in the way.
“With about 195 boys trying out, you can expect a lot of competition with only 65 making it in,” said Christopher Gomez, a junior goalkeeper. He has experienced what it is like trying out so he knows how tough it can get.
“At first, the coaches will start you off by playing small games called small sided so they can see who has the most skills. The deeper into the tryouts, around Thursday and Friday, you can expect for everything to get harder like playing full field games,” said Christopher. He talks about the types of things the coaches will makes you do so they can see you more profoundly.
The coaches will check for the small things about each player trying out such as whether or not you have a good IQ in soccer, if you know what to do in the field, if you can adapt to new playing styles and playing with new players and if you have any leadership attributes.
“You will be told to run, a lot! This will let the coaches know how good your endurance is,” said Christopher.
Go out there with the best positive attitude, but also ready to compete and willing to be able to try new things!
